Thanks for visiting Cakes with Character. This is a test site.  For more awesome cakes, cupcakes and cookies please visit Between The Pages Blog.

The Works of Roald Dahl Cake

This wonderful Works of Roald Dahl Cake was made by Lise Bonin who also made the amazing Wizard of Oz Pop-up Book Cake.

Each “book” has a different flavor:

  • Roald Dahl Treasury is chocolate with chocolate fondant,
  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is chocolate with caramel fondant
  • The Witches is lemon with lemon fondant
  • James and the Giant Peach is peach with peach fondant
  • Olivia is raspberry with raspberry fondant

One thing I don’t understand is why Lise refers to the book Matilda as Olivia.  Olivia was the name of Roald’s daughter who died of measles at the age of seven.

The most interesting Roald Dahl story is told in the book The Irregulars: Roald Dahl and the British Spy Ring in Wartime Washington .

When you think of British agents, the first thing that comes to mind is James Bond.  During World War II, Britain employed a group of irregular agents which included Roald Dahl and James Bond’s creator, Ian Fleming.  Their mission was to spy on America’s isolationist circles and to influence Washington’s elite to persuade them that America should enter World War II.  A story of secret correspondents, hidden meeting houses, high society parties, and Walt Disney - the life of Roald Dahl was the epitaph of the modern spy.
